Just Ana, Susan, and Me (Again)

February 6, 2010 by colleeen

Everyone’s gone today. The two Nocal people we thought would always be here aren’t. Kevin’s in LA visiting a friend overnight, and Shang’s family took him out. Brunch surprisingly wasn’t that good today. My omelet took forever, and it was funny because on the description it said “…quickly cooked.” Kevin and Bonnie mashed up a fresh tub of cookies n’ cream because they only wanted the cookies. I felt like I was dying yesterday. The worst kind of being sick is when I have a runny nose and watery eyes. In addition to that, I’m also coughing up junk. It didn’t help that Kevin kept saying things like, “well, it’s not like you can win a beauty contest,” and “it sounds like the giants are coming,” and “did someone just score in hockey?” So I came up with this thing where every time he insults me, he owes me a cheesecake. His total count is one now, because when he was going to brush his teeth in the girls’ room, he saw the water on the counter and said, “did you guys ejaculate on the counter or something?” So Kevin and Shang are gone, and they left me with Kevin’s key so I can get my sandwich whenever, and Simon had the bright idea to get in their room and reorganize Shang’s furniture without touching Kevin’s stuff. Simon wanted to prop his bed against the wall to make a fort, which was a terrible idea, because just moving the bed against the window was bad enough. As we were getting ready to leave, he, his mom, and his brother came in. That had to be the most awkward situation I was in, even more awkward than Kevin leaving me with Charles in the Brandywine line. I was under the impression that he wouldn’t be back until nighttime, but I guess not. He seemed pretty pissed, so I’m considering him as competition in bio now. So I snuck into his room to show Ana and Cecilia and took a picture and closed the door. I hope Kevin has a good weekend in LA, and still totally do not believe him when he says he’ll miss me.

Anthro Midterm

February 2, 2010 by colleeen

Chem lecture made me ridiculously sleepy today. I went back after and took a nap, then went to lunch, then didn’t really do anything until chem discussion. Amber was sick, so Glenn took over. We were almost done and he leaned over and asked me to put one of the questions on “what is the new n?” questions up on the board. Then I had to get up there and explain it and he asked me what happens if the electron were emitting energy, and I was all, oh, it would be negative. Then he asked me to put the negative sign, and I didn’t know where to put it. It was weird talking in front of 40 or so people in college. I left early because I did well, but not compared to the curve, on the midterm to study for anthro. I finished 35 or so minutes into it and felt pretty good about my answers. But when we talked about it outside and on the walk to Late Night, I got so depressed. It felt like SATs all over again, but I never read carefully enough. I can’t believe I didn’t pick primitive anthropology for one of the questions! I felt so stupid, and it didn’t make things better when Simon yelled, hey you guys! she got that question wrong! Dumb jerk. Maybe I should have laughed at him when he didn’t understand calc. Which reminds me that I should probably be studying for the midterm tomorrow morning, especially since I gave up going to the ARC to play racquetball with the seven others who went.

No More Dodgeball

February 2, 2010 by colleeen

We got up to go to the new breakfast they have at Pippin and found out it was some skillet. It was pretty oily, but better than their regular food. The green peppers taste uncooked and off because it’s not complimenting an omelet. Then it was time for lunch and Shang was sleeping and Mike bent over him and started using profane language to insult, mock, and provoke him, saying things like, “Hey bitch, what are you going to do now that you can’t talk shit back at me, huh?” and that stuff. After about a minute of that Shang boo-ed him and Mike screamed. It was adorable. Then he kept trying to brush it off by saying things like, okay can we eat now?? and, I knew he was awake, I expected him to do that. We totally knew he was lying, because his girlish scream gave him away. Last night I smuggled two giant turkey sandwiches and a peanut butter jelly out in my green bag. I was so scared I’d get caught, and Chef Ryan was at the door too, but Kevin told me to remind him of the time he gave the Tolkien Room away for our hall dinner. Dodgeball Round 2 today. Kevin was so adorable. But he got smacked out by one of those balls and it looked like it hurt. Then there was this one time he threw it at that curly-haired guy he said he’d take out in the beginning. There were honestly really retarded throwers out there. Blond girl was at least better than Issues girl, but not by much. And worse than either of them was Lily. She threw it so high she may as well have just handed it to them. We lost, even though at the end Steven got hit only after the ball bounced on the ground. I was so mad. Hassan shouldn’t have put those girls into the last game. Now we can’t ever play again, and I was totally going to play the next time too. Now there won’t be a next time. We came back and I tried to tell the condom story to Hassan and Nick, but that didn’t go over so well because I couldn’t stop laughing. Then Bonnie told me a story about that time Simon Pun ate dinner with us, when the ketchup pump was out and this guy trying to get some just for one fry couldn’t get anything out, and then another guy who wanted way more ketchup on his sandwich and couldn’t get any. The pumping sounded really funny. Ana, Susan and I stayed up and it’s 2 now, and we were talking about people from our high schools. I love it when we do. I told them about Mary and James and found out Ana wasn’t someone who was liked by guys, which is really surprising, because I thought guys were after tall and skinny girls, and Ana is both, and Asian, which is a plus.

W10: Week 4

January 31, 2010 by colleeen

MONDAY: night I got dragged to the ARC. Dad got diagnosed with high blood pressure and cholesterol and it kind of opened my eyes to the inactivity that I’ve allowed myself to resort to. Susan’s dad also suggested it, which made me agree to a run to the ARC. Instead, everyone convinced me to go play racquetball with them, so I had to bring my ID. Why don’t they let us do the handprint thing during nights or weekends amazes me. Then I went to study with Sinthu for chem. I found out that the reason I don’t like studying with her is because I end up mostly teaching her. But on the bright side, she fed me Lunchables, the pizza one.

TUESDAY: passed by too quickly. I should have studied for chem more that day, but I didn’t.

WEDNESDAY: Kevin and Mike agreed to play dodgeball for our cluster. It was adorable when he was all sad at us, then he got hit square in his back the first round and stepped over the line for the second. Susan makes the best cheerleader, so Hassan can’t ever write her up unless he wants us to completely not have Cal spirit. I brought my stuff over so I left for Zimbabwe. I left at 11 and met her roommate Evelyn, who’s a sorority girl and kind of a drama queen, but I like her. I left at 11 or so and meant to study by myself. But Susan, who needed to study for an Econ midterm right after her Bio today, and I ended up playing lots and lots of Mancala, which is like the new Pacman. Derrick was over and they were all playing DotA, and everyone got mad at Shang because he screamed his ass off at Derrick. It was sad. I got yelled at too, because I was playing for Kevin and attacked the tower without any backup and leveling up or something, and apparently my getting killed two minutes into the game was first blood. Steve came over after and was all, who played Ax? I meant to take a nap for 15 minutes, then 30, then an hour, then an hour and 30 minutes. I realized at 4 am that this wasn’t working, so I set my alarm for 7:30. I got out of bed at 8:15 or so the next morning.

THURSDAY: After studying for a little bit in the morning, I walked with Mike, Sandy, and Itwon? to our chem midterm. Mike sat two rows below me, and he had the same version too. It was good because I didn’t have anything else until Tuesday, which gave me some time to do things like go to the ARC to play racquetball with Ana, Bonnie, Kevin, Shang, Jenny, Susan and Simon. Jenny looked sporty and it was a little hard to get her to go, but she liked it and the ball bounced on her head. Playing with Susan is fun, because she keeps the ball moving. It was funny, but a little sad when she hit the it once, tried to move out of the way, but got hit in the butt. But before we got the court, we were doing turtle crunches, that nice roller coaster machine, and some pull-ups. I couldn’t do any. Then I stayed up a little to watch Chuck.

FRIDAY: Kevin, Simon, Lily and I went to the ARC to play more racquetball, but couldn’t get a court. So we played badminton. The racket was too heavy, so my arms felt like they were going to fall off. Then we played racquetball when we saw the two guys who brought their own racquets play with that one guy who played with his hands, who was beating that other guy who played normally. I was scared Lily was going to voodoo me, because my hits were really inconsistent. We made reservations for Saturday morning at 10 and 11, and I promised to wake up in time for it. I found out my chem midterm today too. 25 out of 28 was pretty good, but I could have gotten a 27, or even 28, if I’d followed directions and written down the whole element name and didn’t mess up on the natural abundance percentage sig figs. Mike, Bonnie and I all got the same grade. The mean is 20.19 and the median is 21, though, so that scares me, because our class is pretty smart then, or maybe the final was not too challenging. The hard part is that Arasasingham doesn’t give partial credit, because according to him, there’s no partial credit if a bridge collapses or if you kill someone in surgery. I beg to differ, but not everyone on the bridge will die, and you can still give your organs to people. Shang had a better one: they would have already signed his waiver, so if he kills his patient, he’d still get paid the full amount.

SATURDAY: I woke up and my arm was fine. I thought everyone was either waiting for us already, or they’d gone to the ARC to reserve our court. I got out of bed at 10 and got ready in 15 minutes. Then Kevin opened his door and stumbled out. He looks so adorable sleepy. We waited a little for Jonathan, who was taking a shower before working out, which I don’t get. The Kyle suite bathroom is pretty big with 3 showers, 3 stalls and 4 sinks. I really don’t get why guys can’t aim. I called Anthony as we were walking there, but I found out later he was waiting for his bike, so next time. We got to the ARC 11:10 or so, and checked in and made Shang kick out the dad and his two little kids playing in our court. It was sad because the boy looked at us kind of sadly and the girl threw herself on the floor a little. We played until the end of our hour, then moved down a court and played for another hour. Omelets never tasted so good. Coconut pineapple ice cream is pretty good. I took a shower in the guys’ room and it’s gross. The stalls are too small, there’s probably sperm and STDs on the walls, and the herpes curtain kept flying and touching me, which was disgusting. It was kind of funny when Byron walked in and the restroom smelled like shit. The I took a nap until 6:14, and got some dinner, made Shang 1.5 turkey sandwiches and half a peanut butter and cream cheese, which had too much peanut butter. Kevin was yelling about keeping it away from me, but I don’t know what he’s talking about, because it’s not like I’d eat the sandwiches I made for him. Much. So we played cards after and my hand turned red from getting slapped too hard. Hassan is doing rounds, so Kevin was suggesting that we call him and tell him that there’s a problem at the furthest dorm in Middle, which would be really funny because when he comes back, we’ll be all, hey Hassan, how was Evenstar? I have to do FAFSA soon, and study for Anthro and Math, so I can ace those classes too. I feel accomplished, because we went to the ARC four times this week! I’m on my way to being healthy and fit.

Beware of Falling Branches

January 24, 2010 by colleeen

This week has been such a rainy week. Umbrellas flipping left and right, coming back to our rooms with our socks and shoes sopping wet, and branches being blown off, which made us reassess the fact that maybe those signs in the park weren’t there just for kicks. Cecilia’s birthday was Wednesday, and Sinthu went with Alice to Albertson’s to get her a cake. We ate lunch with Hassan yesterday at Brandywine, and it was fun. Me, Simmy, Kevin and Shang pestered him with questions and accusations of why he didn’t have a special handshake or fist thing with us. I accidentally ate his egg salad because I thought it was Shang’s. Hassan knows everyone. Kevin was all, hey, we thought that was you. Hassan was all, hey Paul? They think you look like me. He did some weird slap thing to peoples’ backs and this one girl shrunk away from him, and he waved at the construction worker on the roof, and we finally came to Jared, who, after Hassan did the slap thing with, watched with the rest of us as Hassan’s Neapolitan sandwich plopped to the ground. The guy on the roof laughed too. Jared knows what we’re talking about when we say strawberry shortcake, unlike Hassan. He was going on about how there aren’t ever any more when he gets there because some people take the whole box, and Kevin was staring at me and making it seem like I do it all the time. There was a tornado warning on Tuesday? 6 miles NW of Irvine, and I found out a few days later that there really was a tornado in the OC, even though the warning was canceled 5 minutes after it was announced. Other things happened last week, but I forgot. And when we came back, Hassan’s picture had a whole beard.

I Hate the Rain

January 20, 2010 by colleeen

The tree right outside our window is scaring me. The entire trunk is moving and if the wind blows any harder, it will crash into our room and scare the shit out of me. The ZotAlert thing said there was a tornado 6 miles NW of Irvine at 1:30 pm and suggested that we stay indoors, and 10 or so minutes later canceled it. I was getting ready to skip Chem discussion, but it stopped raining and we even got a little bit of sun 20 minutes before class was about to start, so I went. Good thing it didn’t rain when I was walking back. After Anthro and Late Night at Brandywine, we went to Albertson’s for some Q-tips and tissue after dropping stuff off at VDC. We ended up getting a whole mess load of junk food and taking all the pina colada SoBe’s. We had some trouble sticking all the juice cartons into the fridge, but it worked out in the end when I came and intervened. It was so sad when we teased Ana with chips and she started crying! And then we sang “Replay” a few times and it annoyed Bonnie and she played different versions of “Wedding Dress,” which according to Bonnie Ana “hates.” I meant to take a short shower, but the duration of it was as long as it usually is. After watching the new Chuck episode on hulu, I got into bed and slept at 2, or maybe a little after.

Long Weekend #1

January 17, 2010 by colleeen

Tomorrow is MLK Day and I’m sure everyone will be thinking about racism in the 1960’s when they’re at the movies or the beach tomorrow. Tomorrow will be a catch-up homework day for me, but I’m hoping to finish most of my homework today, because Susan will be back in time for brunch tomorrow! It’s been so weird that she’s gone, and I have to make sure I have my key with me all the time. But on the other hand, I love having Kevin and Shang to myself. There’s also Ana, but she’s always with Bailey, and Lily, who’s insulted that we don’t invite her to breakfast or dinner or anything. We did this morning, but she wasn’t there. It turns out that she was already at brunch. By herself. Kevin was all, it’s okay because she’s studying. Guys, honestly. Danny and the peer boys can’t make it tomorrow, which makes me sad, but I’m okay with it, because I really need to catch up on homework. And I found out we might get a parakeet! I wonder why the change of heart, but I’m not wondering too much. Showering with Kevin is fun.

Winter Quarter

January 13, 2010 by colleeen

Week Two already, and I’m falling behind again. I’ve just switched out of my ridiculously curved Bio class and into another with midterm and final. Even though I’ve already missed a Clicker quiz, I think I’ll be able to do better than I would in Bush and Loudon’s. Phoenix Grill yesterday was pretty good. I need to try that Mexican place’s portebello mushroom quesadilla sometime. We were walking back from something at BS3 and Shang reached out and kicked the stick thing near the bridge and Kevin laughed so hard I had to laugh too. I need to update more often because I won’t remember what’s going on anymore. Jimmy, Jonny, and Aaron visited over the weekend. Chuck two-hour premiere on Sunday and I watched it at Evenstar. Meeting some people there made me realize that our suite isn’t really out to meet people. We’re actually more secluded than we think, and by choice too. I hope Brandon and Danny and Justin are coming on MLK Day.

Winter Break

January 8, 2010 by colleeen

Dinner with the Buhlers at Souplantation. Jimmy’s group was there. New York clam chowder isn’t that good because there’s too much potatoes and not enough clams. Then we came back and played Cranium and me and Melinda make a great team, what with the Great Depression and then the Titanic on the first guess and everything. Vitamin and spank didn’t go over too well though. We went shopping too. The same day as the dinner, I think. Two black pants that I already don’t wear anymore and a pair of bronze flats to go with some of the Christmas clothes mom got me. People were surprised that Justin just called to hang out with me, which apparently is really unheard of since he doesn’t just accept anyone’s invite to hang out, much less call. Tenju with Cannus, Danny and Justin. James couldn’t make it. I learned lots of things about Ohio, such as the fact that their minors have vertical shaped IDs and that there are practically no Asians. I’m so excited Justin wants to come to Irvine and surprised that Danny wants to go to ASU, but he really looked into things and planned stuff out already. The only thing is that he might melt there. I dropped Brandon’s Christmas card at his work for him. He’s the most adorable thing there ever was. Office Depot is being remodeled and has that nasty new carpet smell, but it’s not too bad. It was an exceptionally boring break and I actually felt like Irvine was home when we arrived.

What has the world, or rather, our economy, come to if Winter 2010 ME Double & 100 Meal Plan: $3539.00?
